Well, this is at least borderline pathetic, but I just love my birkenstock sandals! So every now and then, I scrub the footbed, the leather, spray the leather and suede with leather protector, and use a sealer on the cork edges.
Birkenstocks are wonderful! They have 5 arches built into them, and gradually the cork footbed is shaped by your own foot to create a customized orthotic for you. Initially they may not be very comfortable, but as this shaping occurs, the comfort increases. I can't get particularly pretty Birkenstocks in my size, but I bet all of you could get all kinds of beautiful Birkenstocks.
I wonder if I could talk my son into writing an Ode to Birkenstocks for me. . . . .

Oh but you CAN get pretty ones in your size. I wear a 41/42 which is pretty darn big. ;P I wish I was better at taking care of mine but then I think it's a good excuse to get another pair. ;)

ReplyDeleteI tried Birks once and returned them because I found them so uncomfortable. Sounds like I just didn't give them enough time. You have a great collection. There weren't those cool red ones or beachy ones when I tried them. I live in my Teva flipflops in the summer.
ReplyDeleteYou taught me something new today! I didn't know that you could take care of your Birks in this way. I don't own any, but I think it's terrific you can do this and extend your shoe life...:o)
