The Gutsy Petunia

We have a concrete patio in our yard, and this summer, we haven't exactly put a lot of effort into "beautifying" it. But there, growing from a small crack, is this gutsy little petunia that decided to take matters into its own hands:

This first shot was taken with my beloved Nikon 105 mm lens at iso 400; f/10; 160 ss.

And this second shot, just to compare, and with identical processing from RAW, was taken with my brand new Nikon 20 mm 2.8 at f.2; iso 100; 1000 ss.

Nice shots. That is a beautiful flower.

wow, great shots but I especially like the 2nd since you really get the feel of what the petunia had to overcome :)

I so admire beautiful, lush gardens. I love flowers. I love the little birds and butterflies that stop in. But I do not like gardening. If there's one thing I miss from our old house is our tiny, city-lot backyard. It was just enough for me. Just enough to grow a perennial or two, to throw in a few annuals, or a tomato plant, and call it quits. And I prefer hard patios like concrete or pavers. They are easier to hose down, to shovel snow off of them in winter, to slide chairs, and they require very little maintenance. Given the harshness of your last winter, I'd prefer to think of you sitting on a lawn chair, sipping a lemonade and admiring your brave little petunia, than toiling on dirt.

I love a fighter and that little petunia definitely earned the badge of 'the little train that could'. and ohhh, a new toy too!

I love the color of that petunia! Funny how the smallest things seem to have the greatest willpower to survive!

What a nice little flower to pop up out of nowhere and brighten your day! :) I love both shots, but the second seems warmer and I prefer that one. I hope you love your new lens!

What a brave petunia. The only thing that grows up through the concrete around here is weeds lol.

I love finding beauty in unexpected places, and the last place I'd expect to find such a vibrant flower is growing out of a crevice in the patio!

Neat to see the side by side shots with the two different lenses. Thanks for sharing those.
