Day 154: Rappeling into a Cenote

If you ever go on vacation with my Brian and Dianna, Be Afraid! Be VERY Afraid!!!! Because they are Commando Vacationers, and will probably talk you into going into the jungle, and doing scary things, like rappel down a cliff, into a cave (a cenote). Try not to look up and notice the bats flying around above your head.

I could have posted another photo just after this first one, showing where the cliff DISAPPEARS! (no one mentioned That!) and you're suspended in mid-air, but the photo was just TOO unflattering and embarassing.

After dropping into this underground, water-filled, cave, I was rewarded by getting to float around in this wonderful cool, clear water.

This is a photo of Brian, me, Dianna and another person who happened to be on the jungle excursion with us.Another thing not mentioned is how you get OUT of the cenote. I climbed this steep ladder, but started to lose it at the top. Maya people are not very tall, but this man who was probably as old as me was incredibly strong, and grabbed my hand with a Death-Grip, which was most welcome and appreciated!

And then, just in case you don't have enough adrenalin coursing through your veins, if you travel with Brian and Dianna, you get to see your 2nd son (Brian) jump off the cliff into the cenote without any of those nice, safety harnesses.

I actually handed my camera to a sweet little Mayan boy of about 10 years old to take all these photos, so the little cutie gets the credit. I only wish I had taken his photo at the end!

Now THAT is a vacation. Looks scary but fun at the same time, sometimes we all need a little push out of our comfort zone. You got some really fun pics.

I certainly hope you were awarded a medal after that excursion!! My palms are sweating just looking at those photos. I don't do well AT ALL with ladders and heights and drops...

Woohoo! Good for you! I'm not sure I could make myself do that, but I know I'd be kicking myself later for chickening out, so I really admire you. I was looking forward to seeing the adventure you hinted at.
In the post below, I LOVE the composition of that last one. So pretty.
