Day 190: Ummm, is this Reproduction????

Oh, I hope one of you wise gardening people can answer this question for me. Remember this photo that I posted a while back, wondering what I planted? And many of you told me it was a lupine?

And then a few days later, it looked like this:

Well. . . . now, THIS is what it's doing! I mean, what the heck? Is this some kind of reproduction? Are these. . . appendages. . . going to bloom? Or drop strange seed pods in my garden? What is this plant up to?

And just in case you need something to reaffirm that all is ok with the world, check out the video I have posted under yesterday's post, if you haven't already. It's just 60 seconds, but somehow very gratifying about life on this planet!

Angela, those are the seed pods for the lupin. If you wait until they are dry, you can plant the seeds this fall, or even in the spring. The plant won't bloom until the second year, though.

Beautiful shots. Glad Pat knew the answer to your questions, though, because I had no idea! :)

What a lovely lupine and it looks like it is doing exactly what lupines do. Soon it will be all brown and ugly but fear not in a couple of years you will have the most beautiful lupine garden ever!

I don't know, but they make for some great photography.

Wow, I love all the detail you are able to capture. The plant sure looks funky, but haven't a clue so I will go with "what Pat said." ;o)

So pretty! You are such an observant person - I would have never noticed the details in flowers like you do! That pink is such a pretty color.

I was going to guess that they are seed pods too. That is an awesome shot of them, all that fuzzy detail is so neat! :)
