Day 263: Scrapfest & Gasoline & Whip Cream (and ketchup)

I really should be posting a photo of the jacket I wore while traveling to Scrapfest! I drove to Minneapolis to meet my two sisters; they drove from Chicago. On the way, of course I had to stop for gas (liquid gold). I have no clue how I managed to do it, but picture putting your finger in the center of a drinking fountain to make the stream of liquid squirt backwards. That was me and the gas pump, and I was drenched (actually hair, shoes, shirt and jeans, as well as the jacket.) There wasn't much I could do, so I went through a drive-in for a hamburger!

You know, an innocent-looking unassuming hamburger. I didn't know it was a PROP for a Freddy 13th movie! One bite and it squishsplashed a bucket of ketchup down the front of my shirt. It was late, but I finally spotted a Target off the side of the interstate, with 15 minutes to closing. Fastest pair of jeans I ever bought! (I just didn't bring enough clothes with me in my luggage. Ha! You wouldn't have thought that from yesterday's photo, but SOMETHING had to make room for all that scrap/crap!)

I asked the check-out clerk to cut off the tags so I could change in the bathroom, and explained what had happened. She laughed and said, "I was wondering what that smell was!"

Before I get to the whipped cream, here's my sister Rina, at 2 am. Rina claims she is not much of a scrapper, but we corrupted her last year. She wouldn't go to bed! She was busy cutting and pasting at 2 am! We created a monster.

Friday night, we went to a "Crop Around Town" at the Archiver's in Apple Valley, from 6:30 pm to 12:30 am. The vendor for this one was K&Company and if you ever go to Scrapfest, don't go to theirs! They are particularly stingy with the supplies that are given out. They seem to use this event as their dumping ground for reject clearance items that don't sell. Unlike other vendors who use it as an opportunity to give away massive amounts of their products and preview the coming year's design lines. And their so-called "door prizes" are weird colored t-shirts advertising their stuff. (I suppose at this point, I should be more appreciative of clothing!)

MaryAnn is the most organized of we 4 sisters. Here she is with her GPS, trying to program in my son's apartment address. MaryAnn is the one we turn to when we're hopelessly turned around and lost in the mall. MaryAnn is the most organized Ultimate Mother to us Impaired Adults. (But I'm the oldest.) And SHE packs Oxydol in her luggage!

On the way home, it was ok to wear the jacket again; the gasoline smell had faded after 3 days in front of the fan in the cooling unit, and my shirt had been the primary victim of the ketchup. I stopped at a Barnes&Noble in Fargo for a pumpkin spice latter and the clerk shook up the whipped cream. Just like in some badly written movie, she dropped the whipped cream, and it was like a missile homing in on my blue jacket (and hair, and shirt and jeans.)!

They should have given me the latte for free, but I didn't think of that till later!

But I had an absolutely wonderful time with my sisters, and can't wait to go again for our 4th at Scrapfest '09. And we're hoping to talk our sister, Laurie, who's still a Scrapfest Virgin into coming to this next year.

ETA: OK, I admit it--I exaggerate somewhat about the ketchup, but not the gasoline or whipped cream!

Angela, what an awesome story teller you are! Here I sit giggling because you relay these events so perfectly.

I am very sorry for the clothing fiasco(s), but also very happy you got to spend such quality time with your sisters.

Thank you for sharing and keeping your perspective on these things. Helps to remind us that it could be worse! LOL
