Day 57 POTD More Grand Forks Oddities

I know these two photos are very similar to one another, but I wanted you see that this is in a residential neighborhood (2nd photo), and I really liked the greater closeness of the 1st photo. I'm still practicing with my 35mm 2.0 lens. I used custom white balance, but even cwb catches a lot of blue in the snow. Removing color cast in PSE5 still seemed to leave the pretty light of just pre-sunset. This was shot in manual mode, manual focus, ISO 400, f/11 and both had a ss of 1/80.

These are "The Kegs". Those weird, garbage can small red things in the front are actually drive-up speakers. In the summer, young women on roller skates actually come out to the car with your food. The hamburgers and shakes are great, and you feel like you really have stepped (or driven) back into the 50s. Please note that as weird as Grand Forks is, we don't have poor young'uns coming out in shorts and roller skates during our chilly winters!

oh boy! I'll have to tell my DH about this place. He's from ND (around the Bismarck area but now lives in WI). Next time we go back, we'll have to take a stop up to GF to check it out! BTW, I'm also bdbirds from over at the Spragueground....ah...did I spell that right? LOL! :D

What a fun place! I wish we had something like that around here!

That's great. It must do some good business, then? And the neighbors don't mind too much?

I've been gone a few days, but it has been so fun going back through your blog and seeing all the Grand Forks photos! And the Firehall Theatre is what I see outside of my windows! Great job on all of these! I want to play with that 35mm 2.0 lens, too!

I like that you showed us both to give perspective. How funny that it's right there in a neighborhood. What a funny quirky town Grand Forks seems to be. And yum, root beer!

But what about snowshoes and short shorts? ;)

I really like the first one, the lighting is pretty. What a funny place! And how odd that it's in a residential neighborhood.

Wow, that looks so fun! I grew up a city girl and I'll never forget the first time I went to Sonic and I pretty much freaked out that they brought us our food! Now of course sonic is much more popular.

LOL,, good to know you don't torture the young folk during winter-time! I'd love to see a pic of that place in the summer though. Very cool place and great shots!

I loved the comment about having beer in those barrels...or are they full of root beer?

Love all the shots you share of your area. I suppose people there have to have some sort of sense of humor about life when it gets as flipping cold as it does during the winter there, huh?

I'll bet that place is in a neighborhood so when you are freezing you don't have far to go to get some "beer" in the winter!

I really am enjoying the photos you share and the commentary!
