A year ago, yesterday, we got a phone call from our local station telling us about this. And yesterday, one WHOLE YEAR later, this was going on outside my door as I got ready for work.
So now we have a pit where we used to have a side walk (just in time for Halloween!).
. . . . and another mystery hole here (in the ground, you dirty minds!), as well as several more in our yard.
So now we have a pit where we used to have a side walk (just in time for Halloween!).
. . . . and another mystery hole here (in the ground, you dirty minds!), as well as several more in our yard.
But, in THEORY, our house should not explode now, like the house in Fargo, and the many houses in Minnesota, and Iowa, and. . . .
Other states were much quicker at replacing the exploding gaslines, but we don't have an exactly immense population here in North Dakota. So our law suits tend to be cheaper, although personally, I tend not to think of any of our bodies as exactly expendable.
I talked to "the guy" in my driveway a few days ago, as they were again placing their mystery markings of "Doh" and "Pec" all over our sidewalks, with brightly-colored little flags, about what was what. He said that Excel was going to be fined a huge amount of money if this wasn't done before January 1st. They finished in Minnesota last year, because their deadline was January 1, 2009.
Would have made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside if I thought Excel was just doing this out of the kindness of their hearts, given the 13 people they blasted in Fargo last year.
But I do hope they didn't do a rush/sloppy job with these gaslines. . . .

Yuk! With homes, when it isn't one thing it's another. Glad to hear your house won't be exploding in the near future, though. We are rather fond of y'all.
OH man! Not only are they rushing the legal deadline, they're trying to beat Mother Nature, too. Boo Excel!!! I am glad that they are getting around to repairing it, though. Hope you don't lose any trick or treaters. That would be a nasty trick (or a real treat, depending on the kid... (i know, I'm a real curmudgeon!) )
I'm happy to know you are safe from exploding. Wow....what a story!
Holy smokes, that's got to be a little nerve wracking living with that! Glad it's getting fixed!
Goodness! I'm glad it's finally being taken care of. Of course I'd rather they were doing it out of the goodness of their hearts rather than the tug at the pocketbook, but it getting done is better than not, however it is happening.
I DO hope the trick or treaters don't land in that big hole!
Oh good LORD...I cannot even believe it has taken them a whole freakin' year! Ummm...good to know they were is SUCH a rush to get this taken care of for you. We had a similar problem happen in our neighborhood RIGHT before we moved in (thank goodness). Apparently...they waited to long and THEN had to install all new tanks in every single house in the subdivision. Yay for cooperative America.
You can't explode, we'd miss you! I just love your sense of humor about things that would make me nuts.
Oh my a whole year later?~! I'm glad that they're getting it done - even if it is for all the wrong reasons. I'm even happier that your home and family will be safe!
Happy to see this is getting fixed, how scary. You have such a funny, positive outlook though, I love it!
After 1 year! I'm glad nothing happened in between time and glad you are safe now.
Hopefully they get it repaired and clean up the mess. Must admit - was not expecting the hair-color photo when I flipped over to read the original thread on your gas problem. :)
