Eulogy for the Best Dog Ever

Turn back, Time, for this brown shadow
Give her one more lap around the yard
One more chance to escape out the front door
One more chance to drool a fur soaked ball into my purse
One more paw placed on a lap for comfort and one more look
from soul-full, ocean-deep eyes.

Goodbye, little friend,

I am so heart broken. I've written and erased x3 and am still at a loss. Ms. Bonnie touched us even as far as West Virginia. My prayers and thoughts and deepest condolences are with you, Doug and the kids.

Oh no! I am so sorry :( You were so kind when my DD was sad about her piggie. I am sure the long happy relationship you had with Bonnie makes this such a sad time for you. I so enjoyed her book reviews! May she R.I.P.

Oh Angela, my heart goes out to you and Doug. Bonnie was so beautiful, loving and funny. She will be missed tremendously by your family, but also by her "extended" family via your blog.

What a wonderful eulogy for your special, special friend. Please know you are in my thoughts at this very difficult time. Hugs!!

Rainbow Bridge
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

My sympathies. Bonnie lived to a ripe old age. My first dog died in 1994. I remember she went off to hide behind the hedges she would so often run along. I had to cut away the chain link fence to get at her. She died the following evening.

This makes me miss my old friend all over again.
