Shiner Texas and Beer Nickels

Once we left rain-drenched Austin Texas, we headed down to Galveston. But every good Road Trip requires random stops and detours for this and that. . . .

. . . .like a brewery tour in Shiner, TX. During the tour, no photos are allowed, in case we are tempted to duplicate in our living rooms, with 23 million dollars worth of equipment, the beer-making process.

But at the end of the tour, you are given 4 nickels to redeem for cups of beer, and you can sample the various varieties.

Fortunately, these are not full-sized glasses, but after finishing two of them, I was more than willing to abandon a 3rd, and pocket the cool, wooden nickel.

The town of Shiner itself is quite picturesque, and I thought this wagon wheel walk would be an ideal spot for portraits.

I guess it gives new meaning to the phrase: “Don't take any wooden nickels!”

I've never been a huge beer drinker, except when I was nursing . . . for some reason I craved beer then, and would drink a half a glass every third or fourth day . . . I know, I'm a lush . . .

I love beer :). I probably would have had to use all my wooden nickles there lol. Love the wagon wheel type decor on the porch in those last shots. Nice captures.. Sounds like fun!

Didn't you watch "Its a Wonderful Life" - "don't take any wooden nickels"? Your trip looks like it was very enjoyable and spontaneous. My husband and I are too OCD for "spontaneous" stops on our trips - so I'm really enjoying it on yours.

Must be fun to visit a beer place! And to sample them too! Cool! Love the wooden nickels (I would have kept one or two for sure!)

Hopefully you have a good memory since you weren't able to take pictures inside....in case you do want to duplicate the brewery in your living room. Love the wooden nickels!
