Still On the Road: Does the Fun Ever Stop? Not in Texas!

And just when you thought I was running out of things to write about on our Grand Texan Roadtrip, I pull out one of our really cool stops!

Oh, I know what some of your are thinking. You are thinking "But. . . but. . . it's just fast food."

Put away those lame thoughts! This is not just ANY fast food! This is

SONIC fast food! The only fast food I lust and dream about during long North Dakota winters! The fast food with HEAT! The fast food that includes jalapeño peppers stuffed with some kind of heart-stopping cream cheese concoction.

Oh, sure, we have your usual array of lame McDonalds and Burger King, but Texans have SONIC, where the food is delivered to your car window by servants (I mean servers) on roller skates! Oh, that I might live to see the day when food is delivered in the depths of winter in North Dakota to me by people on roller skates!

(Nah! Either it would mean global warming had done us all in, big-time, or I'd feel so guilty, I'd have to bundle the young-uns into my car and turn the heater on full blast to thaw them out, and then I'd get arrested for kidnapping popsicle-ified Sonic workers.)

LOL! Maybe they'd wear snow shoes!

I don't think I've ever eaten at a Sonic, and I don't think I've seen one in the Chicago area. I'll have to keep my eyes peeled next time we're on the road . . . although, I'll pass on the jalapeño peppers. I don't seem to have much tolerance for hot foods.

Large Sonic Blast, Butterfinger, extra Butterfinger, hold the whip-cream. It was my mom's standing Thursday order - she would get an extra and put it in the freezer to tie her over until the next Thursday. Good stuff, good stuff!

Ahhhh, Sonic! I'm lucky that Sonic has several locations near me. I used to pick up our breakfast there every Saturday morning! And for the longest time I was a die-hard Route 44 Diet Coke (straight, no add-ins) drinker. I loved their ice! Alas, the one I went to was under performing and they closed it. :( (What? I didn't singlehandedly keep the place going??) The other ones are just enough out of my way that I've stopped going. Sigh...

Glad you got to go and thanks for the wonderful posiclefied image of the carhops in a North Dakota winter! *Ü*

LOL - We used to a drive-in A&W when I was a kid - used to love it! Never been to Sonic - guess I will have to find one next time I come down South!

One thing to add to this is that between 2PM and 4PM Sonic has Happy Hour. The large drinks are under a dollar. I can not go to Sonic without thinking of your entire family.
